Education
ABO
and NCLE do not sponsor or provide continuing education. To meet your
requirements for continuing education, the following providers do offer
continuing education programs. This is only a partial listing of the many
organizations and companies that provide ABO and NCLE approved continuing
education.
Why
Do I Need Continuing Education?
Continuing
education contributes to your professional growth as an optician or contact
lens technician. You will benefit by keeping pace with new technology,
products and ideas. Take a few minutes to take a personal inventory of
your strengths and weaknesses and then select your continuing education
to fit your particular needs. If you need help finding continuing education
courses for your professional growth and for fulfilling your recertification
requirements, try the following suggestions:

Contact your state society. (See Key Provider List.)
• Check
the calendar of events in trade magazines and newsletters for educational
meetings.
• Watch
for notices of trade shows and conventions where education is offered.
• Ask
colleagues at work for suggestions.
• Contact
sales representatives of vendors and manufacturers; many offer courses
to small groups.
• Enroll in a homestudy course. (See Key Provider List.)
KEEP IN MIND: Planning ahead for your continuing education enables
you to choose more appropriate courses and also to control your expenses
more effectively. ABO and NCLE approve courses for recertification credit;
they do not provide courses. If you are in doubt whether or not a meeting
is approved, please call ABO/NCLE, (800) 296-1379, to verify the approval
status of the meeting before attending.
